PrestaShop

SEO
A PrestaShop marketplace turns an ecommerce shop into a platform where several sellers offer products through one interface. The operator controls registration, catalogues, orders and commissions. A multi-vendor module adds this business layer to existing PrestaShop software.
You retain your catalogue while opening the platform to third parties. Each sale may generate a commission set by the operator. The official PrestaShop software page, checked in August 2026, claims more than 300,000 shops worldwide; another corporate page states nearly 250,000 sites. These marketing figures must not be confused with an independent count of active sites.
If you are new to PrestaShop, begin with our complete PrestaShop guide. Marketplace mode adds payment, moderation and access rules beyond conventional shop management.

There is no single PrestaShop market share because the result depends on scope. In July 2026, BuiltWith counted 8,781 PrestaShop detections among 348,156 ecommerce-technology detections on top-million sites, about 2.5%. This technical ratio measures neither revenue nor total merchants.
Across its full index, BuiltWith also recorded 170,785 active PrestaShop sites, including 30,125 in France, when checked in August 2026. PrestaShop itself claims more than 300,000 shops worldwide. The methods differ: a brand may count merchants or installations, while a detector analyses visible technology on accessible domains.
Judge PrestaShop by your target market, available skills and required extensions. Global share does not show whether payment, delivery or marketplace modules fit the project, nor replace an audit of the installed version and ecosystem.
Opening a shop to third-party sellers can expand the catalogue without buying every product into stock. The operator may charge commission, seller subscriptions or service fees. Growth is not automatic: the model also creates recruitment, catalogue oversight and customer-service work.
First ask which sellers add useful products for current customers. Next decide who approves listings, handles returns and responds to delays. Finally test the economics: seller commission must cover payment, support, moderation and maintenance.
Network effects appear only if both sides receive value. With no buyers, sellers neglect catalogues; without dependable supply, buyers do not return. Begin with a precise segment, set admission criteria and measure quality before increasing account numbers.
A standard PrestaShop site has no fixed price. The open-source software is free to download, but domain, hosting, theme, modules, integration, content and maintenance all cost money. PrestaShop states a minimum of about €15 a month for hosting and domain on its Classic offer. Hosted starts at €24 a month before tax on the official page checked in August 2026.
These figures are not the cost of a delivered project. A shop with catalogue import, payments, carriers, bespoke design and data migration requires scoping and development. Price a defined list of functions and templates rather than applying a generic range. Our PrestaShop agency page explains possible support for a comparable scope.
Marketplace costs come next, adding a multi-vendor module, seller accounts, commissions, payouts, moderation and permission testing. Separating the two avoids presenting a simple PrestaShop site's price as the cost of an operational marketplace.
Multi-vendor mode creates new accounts and actions in the back office or a dedicated interface. Security therefore depends on PrestaShop core, the marketplace module, connected extensions and access policy. No module removes the need for continuous maintenance.
Use a maintained PrestaShop version and follow project security notices. Before updating, check module compatibility, back up files and database and test in staging. PrestaShop recommends updating modules individually and checking the shop after each operation. Fixes may address bugs or vulnerabilities.
A seller should see its own products, orders and documents, never another account's. Test permissions with several profiles and manually copied URLs. Restrict administration rights, require strong passwords and promptly remove unused accounts. Log sensitive changes, especially payment details and commission rules.
Also check payouts. The marketplace module and payment provider do not play the same role. Establish who receives money, performs identity checks, triggers refunds and records disputes. Have the arrangement approved by legal advisers and the payment provider.
The official PrestaShop Addons marketplace and publisher sites offer several multi-vendor options. This comparison retains the five modules already researched, but does not replace testing. Compare features, compatible versions, required extensions and support terms.
Prices were reviewed on official publisher pages on 11 August 2026. They use several currencies and may include temporary promotions. Tax, installation, extensions and support renewal can cost extra. Open the product page before purchasing.
| Module | Price | Maximum sellers | Automatic commission | Support | User rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Marketplace Builder (PrestaHero) | €159.99 (€127.99 observed promotion) | Unlimited | Yes | One year stated | 116 reviews, displayed rating 5/5 |
| JA Marketplace (JA Modules) | €209.99 before tax | Unlimited | Yes | Confirm for the chosen offer | More than 2,500 downloads displayed |
| Webkul Multi-Vendor | $99 | Unlimited | Yes | Selectable duration | 107 reviews displayed |
| Knowband Marketplace | $129.99 ($103.99 observed promotion) | Unlimited | Yes | One year of updates stated | 144 reviews displayed |
| FME Multi-Vendor Pro | €59 | Unlimited | Yes | Lifetime support and updates stated | One review displayed |
PrestaHero provides a seller dashboard, product management and several ways to charge sellers. Check payment methods for your arrangement; a feature advertised for the main module may depend on an extension.
JA Modules highlights fixed or variable commissions by seller, category or tier. The checked page displays PrestaShop 1.7 compatibility without clearly mentioning branches 8 and 9 in the summary. Obtain written confirmation for a recent project.
These publishers show lower entry prices, but sell some complementary features separately. List payment, delivery, invoicing, moderation, refund and mobile-app requirements. Compare the full basket, support and update policy, not only the base module.
Étape 1
Select it for your PrestaShop version and required functions. Install in staging first and retain the purchased file, licence, documentation and support details.
Étape 2
Set calculations by category, seller or product type. Document taxes, refunds and payment fees. Test rounding and orders containing several sellers.
Étape 3
Customise registration, required documents and approval. Explain catalogue rules, response times and rejection reasons so sellers understand their status.
Étape 4
Connect a suitable system such as Stripe Connect, PayPal for Marketplaces or Mangopay. Configure automatic seller payouts on a weekly or monthly cycle.
Étape 5
Create several seller accounts with different rights. Simulate registration, products, orders, payments, refunds and payouts. Confirm that no seller can access another's data.
Étape 6
Begin with a limited selected group. Support their first product listings and measure quality, delays, disputes and support demand before opening more widely.

The budget includes the module, extensions, integration, hosting, design, testing and maintenance. We found no Bpifrance publication confirming a median €5,000–€15,000 cost for an SME marketplace, so the old range should not be used as a reference.
The five compared modules show base euro prices of €59–€209.99 before tax and dollar prices of $99–$129.99, excluding observed promotions. These do not cover a complete project. Split payments, delivery rules, seller invoicing and mobile apps may require extra modules.
The table retains three scoping scenarios but replaces unverifiable amounts with 'quoted'. Give each provider the same scope: supported versions, environments, data migration, tests, documentation, warranty and maintenance. Then compare offers without confusing module price with total ownership cost.
| Cost item | Minimum budget | Comfort budget | Premium budget |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marketplace module | From observed €59 | According to features and currency | Module and extensions quoted |
| Hosting (annual) | Quoted | Quoted with staging | Quoted with monitoring |
| Bespoke development | None if module is sufficient | Quoted | Quoted after specification |
| Seller design / UX | Native interface | Adaptation quoted | Bespoke journey quoted |
| Agency support | Internal autonomy | Scoping quoted | Complete management quoted |
| First-year total | Calculate from scope | Calculate from quotes | Calculate with maintenance |
PrestaShop is not the only foundation. WooCommerce uses WordPress, Shopify is a hosted service and Mirakl targets marketplace programmes built on a commercial platform. Choose according to internal skills, desired control and multi-vendor scope.

| Open source | Yes | Yes | No | No |
| Maximum sellers | By module and infrastructure | By extension and infrastructure | By chosen app | By contract |
| Hosting | Your responsibility | Your responsibility | Included | Dedicated cloud |
| Customisation | Code, theme and modules | WordPress, theme and extensions | Theme, apps and API | Configuration and API by contract |
| Best for | Teams skilled in PrestaShop | Teams already using WordPress | Teams preferring hosted SaaS | Organisations with a structured marketplace programme |
An internal team can install a module if it understands PrestaShop, payments and maintenance. An agency becomes useful for complex commissions, business integrations, version migration or strict security. Request scoping before an integration quote.
Diagnosis must extend beyond code. A marketplace with no visible demand struggles to recruit sellers and buyers. Check Google searches, indexed pages, listing quality and how AI answers describe the offer. Our SEO and GEO studies connect visibility, content and measurable evidence.
A PrestaShop agency should specify supported versions, chosen modules, payment limits, testing and maintenance. Reject timetable or profitability promises with no scope. The correct first deliverable is a technical, functional and visibility assessment.
Version, modules, payments, seller permissions and visibility: our team defines the scope before pricing delivery.
